Indian Peaks Maintenance Operations

Community Pedestrian Trail
The Indian Peaks community provides a pedestrian trail that winds throughout the property and intersects with the golf course cart path system in several locations. Although pedestrians are not allowed access to the golf course, the pedestrian trail intersects the golf course to allow safe passage into other subdivisions of the community. Clearly marked pedestrian trail signs will guide you through these intersections. Please stay on the marked pedestrian trail at all times and enjoy this uniquely diversified trail system.

Integrated Pest Management Program
Indian Peaks Golf Course uses an integrated pest management program to manage our unique eco-environments. Our philosophy is to introduce cutting-edge discoveries to manage all types of pests. Bio-alternatives are our first line of defense. Examples are: diploid white amur fish and waterous bacteria and microbes have been introduced to manage aquatic weeds in our lakes; soil-borne bacteria and microbial agents are used to combat turf disease; and insects pests are also managed by introducing predatory insects such as the well-known ladybug and the aphid wasp. Best management practices also help to culturally minimize pest populations. Chemical methods are used as a last resort since the use of bio-alternatives have such a positive and lasting effect which benefits the whole surrounding community. Inoculating our soils and introducing "beneficials" into our community is not only effective; it's the right thing to do.

Irrigation System
Our state-of-the-art irrigation system is monitored 24 hours a day by a dedicated central computer. Complex databases insure accurate control over each micro-environment on the golf course. This system has its own on-site weather station that monitors the weather and calculates E.T. (evapo-transpiration rate). Water schedules typically start just before sundown and finish around sunrise. Sensitive turf areas are scheduled between 3 and 6 am.

Turfgrass and Native Areas
Indian Peaks has over six different turf varieties that is managed in over ten unique management zones. Height of cut can vary from .156 of an inch to 7 inches. Golf greens are planted with two cultivars of creeping bent grass while all other fine turf grass areas are a blend of numerous bluegrass/ryegrass/tall fescue cultivars. Native areas are a blend of fine fescues and indigenous grasses. We also are experimenting with the latest buffalo grass varieties. The native areas provide a buffer-zone between the housing development and the golf course. These areas require less maintenance and provide habitat for wildlife.

Non-Golfer Policies
Although Indian Peaks is a public golf course, access to the golf course is restricted only to golfers. In order to insure a safe environment for all, no non-golfing walkers, joggers, roller bladers, bicyclists, or winter sports are allowed on the golf course day or night.

USGA-Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program
Indian Peaks is currently seeking certification from the USGA-Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program. The United States Golf Association and the Audubon Society has joined hands to provide a program that certifies that a golf course is compatible with the environment by providing safe maintenance practices and wildlife habitat.

Arboriculture on the Course
Indian Peaks has planted over 1500 trees since our inception. Over 35 different species of trees have been selected.

Golf Course Design
Indian Peaks is a Hale Irwin Signature design. The course has 87 sand bunkers, 6 lakes, and wide open undulating fairways. Greens are subtle, yet spacious.
