Steamboat
Springs, Colorado
After two decades of establishing itself as one of the best ski areas in North America,
Steamboat has launched its newest crown jewel, the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel. Located
at the base of the ski area, this marvelous resort is unrivaled by any other. The
Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel is unique, as it combines the comfort of a mountain home and
world-class hotel. The Story of Steamboat Grand
In the early days of the
Steamboat Ski Area, officials designated land near its base for a resort hotel. They went
so far as to create a new road that surrounded the property and contoured the land to fit
it's future use.
A massive project called
LaCourcheval was planned and approved for the top of the hill in 1982. but LaCourcheval
was never built, and the property languished for 16 years as Steamboat Springs' mountain
community grew very slowly.
Two years ago, however, that
changed. Locals and visitors watched in amazement as a new project, much smaller than the
original LaCourcheval, took shape on what they had long ago dubbed "the Knoll".
In 1997, American Skiing
Company purchased the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation from Kamori International,
and began making a substantial investment in their newest acquisition.
One of American Skiing Company's First moves was to start construction
of the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel, a 327-room, full service condominium hotel and
convention center that is completed in summer 2000. When it is finished, its developers
hope it will fill several community needs. Perhaps first and foremost, it's designed to
enhance the base area.
"The Steamboat Grand Hotel will elevate the quality of resort properties in
Steamboat Springs," reported Steamboat Today newspaper when the project first got
under way in May 1998. "American Skiing Company has put together a quality
team," said planning commissioner member and local architect Shelley Pastachek during
the public hearing process.
Steamboat Grand general manager Will Temby says his goal is to reinforce the opinion
amongst locals and guests once the hotel is open. He plans to ensure that the hotel
provides the best service experience in Steamboat and a relaxing family environment for
its guests and owners.
Potential buyers may purchase a condominium or participate in a unique
quarter-ownership program in individual units, which range in size from studios to a 4,000
square-foot penthouse suite. Each unit has a fully equipped kitchen, gas fireplace,
owners' storage and sweeping views, either of the Steamboat Ski Area or of Emerald
Mountain and the Yampa Valley.
Owners receive several amenities in the package, including free valet parking,
personalized attention from an owners' services representative in the lobby of the hotel,
and an on-site lounge and slopeside owners' club.
"We want to take care of our owners from the minute they drive up under the
elegant porte couchere entrance," says Steamboat Grand real estate sales director
Samantha Firestone. "While the valet greets them, he'll remove their skis from the
top of their car and carry their luggage up to their rooms."
The club is a central focus of the Steamboat Grand concept, Sam explains. She hopes
families will make their meeting place at the beginning and end of each day on the slopes.
Ski storage will be available there, as will snacks and hot drinks.
Whether owners are staying in their units or renting them on a nightly basis through
the Steamboat Grand reservation system, they will be invited to relax and meet their
friends and neighbors in the owner's lounge at the Steamboat Grand. "It'll be like a
cozy library." Will says
Owners also have unlimited access to the Steamboat Grand's luxurious spa, which
includes saunas, hot tubs, an outdoor heated pool, massage facilities and a spacious
exercise room equipped with a full array of specialized equipment.
Although Quarter-interval ownerships are available, Sam says many people buy more than
one interval. "We have owners who have purchased all four intervals as a second home
because of the allure of hotel services and the premiere location of the property,"
she says.
Plus, there's Steamboat famed friendly service, long recognized by the ski industry as
the community's hallmark. |
