Stonehaven emulates a
cluster of Scottish cottages. The Architect utilized dry stacked black granite in
the exterior finish of the homes and throughout the site to create intimate settings for
each of the homes. Rock berms, gardens and low walls meander through the site with
wildflowers, poppies, sage and heather integrating the homes with the adjacent links style
fairway.
Three and
four bedroom models are available each with decks and an open space plan to take
advantage of the views and sun. The design complements the unique setting and incorporates
the highest quality materials.
The
architectural style is that of indigenous mountain character which employs
materials which are intimate in scale and texture, but at the same time they are very
strong, sturdy materials that lend a sense of permanence and create a place. The intent is
to create stone and wood homes that appear to have been on this site since the area was
transformed to the golf course. The indigenous stone of the area will be a major element
of both the site and the buildings and will connect the homes to the site and its
landscape in such a way that the site and buildings are equally important in the creation
of the village. The building designs can rotate, bend, twist and react to the site to
allow appropriate cluster layout, sun penetration, privacy, views, efficient circulation,
architectural interest and responsible roof design for the climate.
The site design
will allow control of the site to be placed in the association and specific criteria will
ensure that the site will be maintained as a cohesive, first class development. The
cluster and small size of the buildings will allow an intimate scale that will be
perceived as a small village that will allow the landscape to be the primary feature
rather than the buildings.
